General tips

Where the fabric is pulled there will be folds in the direction of the movement.
The fabric will be smooth on the areas that are pushed against the fabric and there will be folds running away from the streched area.
Where there is a surplus of fabric there will be folds.
When the fabric is crumbled together there will be folds where the fabric bundles up.
When the fabric hangs loose it will be pulled by gravity, creating downward folds.

Also remember, tight clothes cling to the body while loose clothing is more pulled by gravity.
And soft and thin fabric will be more pulled by gravity and streched by movement (think of soft cotton or lycra), while stiff fabric will defy gravity a bit more (think of leather or netting)
